Sébastien Rodrigue : Montréal va désinfecter les eaux usées | Actualités | Cyberpresse
According to the Montreal City Weblog, Montreal will begin disinfecting its waste water. Great news, if you live in Sorel. But what about the Habitat wave? Are west island cities disinfecting their waste water? Or does it flow freely onto the Habitat wave where we tend to spend a lot of time standing around waste deep (but hopefully not in shit).
Anyone have an answer, leave a comment.
Later.
Update: The city of Montreal WANTS to start disinfecting its waste water, and is trying to figure out the best way to implement it.

Better water quality is always better than worse. With that being said, here a re a few tidbits for you.
The average coliform level at habitat are generally 4x to 8x better than montreals swimming pools. In summer (july and Aug) in the dry season, the water at Habitat is cleaner than Mexico's drinking water, and on some days, would meet Canada's drinking water standards.
Of course, there are some days when the water is not as good as others (like after 50mm rainfall in 24hrs), and the coliform levels do not address the PCB content of which there is almost no relevant information on saturation at Habitat, or the long term exposure effects of the actual content on us as people.
I applaud the city for its efforts, but for the most part it'll ahve limited affect on us. 100% of the city's drinking water is taken from the river right after the Lachine rapids, and has almost NO treatment (as its so clean). Between us and Habitat there is the Techno park and Nuns island, but again, these two places are only a problem after major rainfall. The main issue is really right below the Concord Bridge (200m below the wave) where copious amounts of waste are dumped into the St Laurance.
You are completely right. The water quality at Habitat generally very good, in terms of fecal coliforms, yet it can be misleading at times.
There days when the posted test results are out of date.
